Indoor Potty for Dogs

I have always lived in apartments, and I've always had dogs, so I wanted to have a way of not having to take out my pup daily, particularly because when I go out to work, my elderly mother can't do it by herself. So, I had been using wee wee pads for the longest time, and then I started hearing about the indoor potty for dogs. There are many types, different brands, sizes, etc., but mostly, they are all the same. Some sort of tray to hold the urine drippings, and a patch of either real or artificial grass on top. I started with a beautiful setup called the Patio Park for over $200.00. It looked great, and the real grass looked incredible. My dog started using it almost immediately, but almost immediately as well, it started to stink. Changing the grass was messy and disgusting. Having the service that comes and changes the grass for you is too expensive and a luxury I don't need. So, I switched to artificial grass. It still stank, and it was still messy. So I sold that and went for the Pet-a-Potty, which costs from $200 to $1000! It worked better with the artificial grass, but emptying the container was an absolute disaster since it's shallower than I would have hoped. Maybe if I had a patio with a drain where I could hose everything off it would not have been that bad, but they promote these things for apartment "indoor" living. In short, I'm back to my wee wee pads. I buy them by the bulk in a medical supply online store, I put a washable rug underneath so I don't have to put them directly on the tile. The pads absorb the pee, I change them once or twice a day, and my balcony looks clean and there's no stink. I have used that setup inside as well, and the rubber lined rug ($15 in home depot, change them two or three times a year).

BiOrb Fish Tanks

The BiOrbs are beautiful fishbowls. Aquarium professionals don't like them very much because the filtration is limited and the shape is not ideal for fish. However, being a fish enthusiast myself, I found that adding an air stone, cleaning the tank and changing the water frequently, my fish are thriving and I'm loving it. Be careful not to overstock though. The smaller size is great for a single Betta fish and the large one can keep some Gupies very nicely. I would definitely not recommend it for Goldfish. Mine is a BiOrb Life 60 and I keep 5 zebra Danios in it. Some BiOrb reviews are not so good, but from personal experience, I can say I like it.

Pedi Paws

First you have to get your dog used to the noise the Pedi Paws makes, then hope he or she doesn't panic when you bring the thing close to his paw... and then throw it away. Hate it. I was never able to use it. Not for my dog, obviously not for my cats. I even burnt my own finger when I accidentally put it through the hole, which also got me thinking that even though it's supposed to be safe, if you go a little past the quick of your pets nail, it might be very, very painful. However, I think it might be very effective for large dogs, mine is only 12 pounds.

Cool Bed III

I adore it! I cannot tell you how much I love this Cool Bed III!  I got it for my old dog who suffered from arthritis and he used to love it. It's my favorite orthopedic dog bed.  My new puppy just uses it as his own personal water bed.  He adores it!!!  There has never been any leaking, and it has lasted me for over 4 years now. Among all the cooling beds for dogs, this one is my favorite of favorites. They come in three sizes and you can also buy very nice covers with bolsters and everything.  Be careful not to put under direct sunlight or close to a heater. Do your dog a favor and get one for him... or her. Just watch out if you have cats and they take a liking to the bed; their nails can eventually poke holes in it.
